A leading hydropower construction project in Nepal is seeking a qualified, energetic, and result-oriented Chinese Translator / Language Specialist to support communication and coordination between Chinese and Nepali project teams. The position requires a highly competent individual with excellent language proficiency, strong computer skills, and the ability to work effectively in a multicultural project environment.


Position: Chinese Translator / Language Specialist
Employment Type: Full-Time
Duty Station: Tamakoshi (Dolakha) and/or Mailung (Rasuwa) Project Sites, Nepal. Deployment will be based on project requirements and operational needs.


Key Responsibilities
  • Provide accurate and timely Chinese–English–Nepali translation and interpretation services during meetings, site visits, trainings, and daily project operations.
  • Facilitate effective communication between Chinese expatriates and local employees, contractors, consultants, suppliers, and stakeholders.
  • Translate technical documents, reports, contracts, correspondence, manuals, procedures, and project-related materials.
  • Assist project management in administrative coordination and communication activities.
  • Prepare meeting minutes, reports, presentations, and official correspondence in Chinese and English/Nepali.
  • Support project teams in using Chinese software, digital platforms, and management systems.
  • Ensure confidentiality and accuracy of translated information and project documentation.
  • Assist in resolving communication barriers and enhancing collaboration among multicultural teams.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by project management.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Chinese Language, Translation Studies, Linguistics, International Relations, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Excellent proficiency in Mandarin Chinese, English, and/or Nepali, including speaking, reading, writing, typing, and interpretation skills.
  • Strong computer literacy with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and the ability to operate Chinese-language software, systems, and digital platforms fluently.
  • Ability to prepare professional documents, reports, and correspondence in Chinese and English.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and coordination skills.
  • Willingness to work and stay at project sites as required.

Experience Requirements
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in translation, interpretation, project coordination, administration, or related roles.
  • Experience working with Chinese companies, contractors, engineering firms, hydropower projects, or construction projects will be a distinct advantage.
  • Fresh graduates with exceptional Chinese language proficiency and strong computer skills may also be considered.

Preferred Competencies
  • Familiarity with technical, engineering, construction, or hydropower terminology.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks under pressure.
  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills.
  • Adaptability to remote project-site working environments.
  • Male candidates are preferred due to site-based operational requirements.
