Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Foreign Affairs Supervisor to join our team in Nepal. This role is critical for ensuring legal compliance, effective communication, and smooth coordination between international teams and local stakeholders. The Foreign Affairs Supervisor will play a key role in navigating legal, cultural, and regulatory challenges to support the successful execution of our projects.


Key Responsibilities

1. Legal Compliance:

  • Thoroughly understand and ensure strict adherence to Nepalese labor laws and relevant legal regulations within the project context.
  • Provide legal guidance to management and teams to prevent potential legal risks.
  • Handle legal issues related to employment, contracts, and operations.

2. Communication & Correspondence:

  • Demonstrate excellent English and Nepalese writing skills, with the ability to draft and process government and regional business letters.
  • Compose official letters to the Nepalese government, adhering to proper formalities and effectively conveying the company’s positions, requests, and reports.
  • Ensure all correspondence aligns with project approvals, permits, and regulatory compliance requirements.

3. Negotiation & Liaison:

  • Act as the key negotiator with Nepalese stakeholders, including labor unions, local suppliers, and government agencies.
  • Use strong negotiation tactics to reach favorable agreements that balance the company’s interests with local requirements.
  • Ensure the project progresses without undue disruptions.

4. Cross-cultural Coordination:

  • Bridge cultural and communication gaps between the company’s international team and local Nepalese counterparts.
  • Facilitate effective teamwork, promote mutual understanding, and resolve cultural misunderstandings or conflicts.

Requirements

1. Legal Knowledge:

  • In-depth knowledge of Nepalese labor laws and a solid understanding of the broader Nepalese legal framework.
  • Proven experience in applying legal knowledge to practical business situations, preferably in the energy or construction industries.
2. Language Proficiency:
  • Native or near-native English language ability, with exceptional writing and speaking skills.
  • Fluency in Nepali is highly advantageous for seamless interaction with local authorities, employees, and the community.
3. Business Writing Skills:
  • A track record of producing high-quality English business correspondence.
  • Demonstrated competence in drafting formal documents addressed to government entities.
  • Samples of previous work may be required during the selection process.
4. Negotiation Skills:
  • Proven negotiation experience in a multicultural setting.
  • Ability to handle complex and sensitive issues while maintaining a professional and diplomatic approach.
  • Successful negotiation outcomes in previous roles will be given significant weight.
