1. Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Geological Engineer who combines principles of geology and engineering to assess, design, and manage projects related to earth materials, natural resources, and environmental stability. They work on projects such as tunnel construction, groundwater management, and natural hazard assessments.

2. Key Responsibilities

Geological Engineer & Compliance: Geological engineers work at the intersection of geology and engineering, ensuring the safe and sustainable use of Earth’s resources. Their key responsibilities include:

  • Site Investigation & Analysis
    • Conduct geological surveys and assessments
    • Analyze soil, rock, and groundwater conditions
    • Identify potential geological hazards like landslides, earthquakes, and sinkholes
  • Engineering Design & Planning
    • Design foundations, tunnels, dams, and other infrastructure based on geological data
    • Recommend suitable construction materials and techniques
    • Ensure projects comply with environmental and safety regulations
  • Risk Assessment & Mitigation
    • Identify geological risks in construction and resource projects
    • Propose solutions to minimize environmental and structural hazards
    • Monitor and manage land stability, erosion, and groundwater contamination
  • Data Interpretation & Reporting
    • Use software and models to analyze geological data
    • Prepare technical reports, maps, and risk assessments
    • Communicate findings to engineers, architects, and government agencies
  • Supervision & Fieldwork
    • Oversee drilling, excavation, and testing processes
    • Ensure fieldwork is carried out safely and accurately
3. Qualifications & Experience
  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Geological Engineering or Related Field
    • Master’s Degree (Optional but Beneficial)
  • Work Experience:
    • Minimum 10 years of work experience in Geological Engineering
    • Strong knowledge of Geological Engineering and international EPC project frameworks
    • Managing teams of junior engineers and geologists, overseeing work in the field and office
    • Reviewing and interpreting complex geological data, including soil and rock behavior, to guide engineering design decisions
    • Designing and implementing geotechnical investigations and tests
  • Technical & Legal Skills:
    • Proficiency in Geological Engineering, review and negotiations
    • Geotechnical Engineering – Soil mechanics, rock mechanics, slope stability, and foundation engineering
    • Hydrogeology – Groundwater modeling, water resource management, and contamination assessment
    • Geophysics & Remote Sensing – Seismic surveys, ground-penetrating radar, and satellite imaging
    • Environmental Geology – Site assessments, remediation, and environmental impact studies
    • GIS & Mapping – Geographic Information Systems (GIS), 3D geological modeling, and cartography
  • Language Skills:
    • Fluency in English (both written and spoken)
    • Knowledge of Nepali and Chinese is an advantage
4. Preferred Certifications
  • Professional Geologist (PG) License
  • Certified Engineering Geologist (CEG) or similar qualification
  • Certified Hazardous Materials Manager
